Thanks Colin for copying and pasting the relevant info from the article. As everyone can tell I did not click on the link... low on my priority list at the time. Being that I don't currently live in the state, have no plans to move back and will (unfortunately) most likely never send my kids to NCSSM, I am only interested in an abstract, alumni sense. :-) In case anyone is wondering I didn't attend college in NC and graduated rfom college with the debt to go with my degree -- but then again a free ride at UNC wouldn't have changed that.

I can't remember who made the comment -- but the point about retaining students in NC after they graduate is a good one. If that was the desired result of the program than it probably is too soon to make an accurate assessment of benefit or not. IMO, if the stuednts who use this program are not dropping out of college at a higher rate than those who didn't attend NCSSM, then there isn't enough cause to discontinue.

Here's another question someone may know the answer to (and if this was in the article as well EVERYONE has permission to spam me -- I can take it, I'm a big girl and you guys don't need permission anyways). When this program was established, were there clear guidelines established for program review (now that I ask I think this was mentioned before) and were there criteria established for determining if the program needed to be discontinued?

People continually blow smoke -- but when you take it back to the original intent the smoke often clears.
