I'm as cynical as the next guy.  (Possibly more so.)  But can you
identify these donors?  I have a hard time believing this is really
where the impetus for the tuition thing is coming from.  As you point
out, people in this group can already afford in-state tuition at UNC
schools.  And are there really that many of them?

As far as I'm concerned the elephant in the living room of this
discussion is the ever-increasing costs of college.  The economics of
higher education are messed up.  I have no bright ideas for fixing
them, but current trends do not seem sustainable for the long haul.
