Colin,
In response to your speculation that the NCSSM
stadium would not involve permanent seating or a P.A.
system, here is a quote from the minutes of the
February 9 meeting of the Executive Committee of the
NCSSM Board of Trustees:
"He [Gerald Boarman] strongly reaffirmed the
school's plans to establish the project in stages, the
first of which will be a soccer field with appropriate
lights. Natural progression will include an
appropriate sound system, seating and other necessary
items to complete a proper stadium."
Regarding state funding for the project: At the
March 10 meeting of the NCSSM Board of Trustees, the
NCSSM foundation announced that it has provided
$288,000 to fund the first stage of construction. The
ultimate cost is currently budgeted around $1.2
million. Newspaper reports in December announced
that the NCSSM Foundation had already raised about
half of the Odyssey Campaign's $10 million goal. It
is not clear how much of that could be diverted to the
stadium if the state is unwilling to pay for finishing
it.
